Our History and Progress

NSBE & SHPE (NS) at Lehman College exists to increase the number of underrepresented students whom are thriving in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines like Computer Science and Computer Information Systems. We are a combination of the two largest minority engineering organizations in the country - National Society of Black Engineers and Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers.

Jointly, the organizations provide Lehman students with unprecedented support, resources, and networks to take our careers to the next level. NS encourages our members to attain internships every semester, build their networks, complete projects, deepen technical expertise, and develop necessary professional skills like public speaking.

Our members have earned internship and full time offers at major corporations like Goldman Sachs, Google, Microsoft, Capital One, General Motors and many more. Our members landed many of these jobs at NSBE and SHPE regional or national conferences - some on the spot! We are incredibly proud of the powerful alumni network we have built at Lehman College

We hosted our 4th annual hackathon together in 2017 at Lehman College, with the theme of diversity and inclusion to provide other underrepresented students the opportunity to thrive as well.

We'll see you again for our 5th hackathon in November 2018!
